Watch Freelance's Smooth Summer Video for "Your Love" [PREMIERE]
Harlem-based music collective Freelance just released their latest music video for "Your Love," a single off their debut album, Yes Today.
“Your Love” is the first collaborative song written and produced by the collective's vocalist Smithsoneon and its keyboardist/producer Ausar The Ambassador. It is the second single from the project, which dropped via Revive Music on May 11. The song was the only track on the album recorded at legendary studio The Breeding Ground in New York City. The raw edge of the recording captures the warmth and grit of the celebrated underground studio. Describing the track's sound as a modern fusion of jazz, boom-bap, and sounds of the diaspora. Featured collaborators Darren Barrett (trumpet), Lomar Brown (saxophone), Mitch Henry (organ), Brandon Mayes (percussion), Brandee Younger (harp) and the Solar String Quartet also lend their sounds to the mix.
"It's the story of a romantic pursuit for love," the group told Okayplayer. "It furthers the message of the album title ‘Yes Today’ by urging people that the time for love is now. Sonically, lyrically and visually it is a celebration of black people everywhere and is intended to serve as a bridge to connect us all."
Freelance will be performing at BRIC Jazz Fest in NYC on Oct. 20th and Art of Cool Festival on Sept. 28.
