Hear Bernie Sanders Chat "This Land Is Your Land" Over A Reggae Beat
Well before Bernie Sanders was copping co-signs from Killer Mike, the man was deep in his political career. About 20 years deep to be exact. But at right around the midway mark, the Vermonter gathered 30 of his fellow statesmen and women to record a folk album. Yes, a folk album. And while reports have swirled around the matter over the last few years, the six-track outing has just been remastered and rereleased in perfect time to compliment his campaign. Today, a preview of that album has been made available for the eager ears of the internet, featuring, most jarringly, a chatted rendition of the standard "This Land Is Your Land," supported by a surprisingly solid reggae backbone.
And while the fact alone is enough to capture one's attention, perhaps the most glaring element of the recording is the fact that the man's voice has remained virtually identical for roughly 30 years, which may be a testament to the man's resilience, unscathed by half-a-century in politics. Hear presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders sing (?) "This Land Is Your Land" over a skanky reggae riddim and hit the link to cop his ill-fated '87 folk album, We Shall Overcome.
