Canadian Rapper Dies After Airplane Music Video Stunt Goes Wrong

The 33-year-old fell to his death after attempting to walk on the wing of a plane while rapping.

Canadian rapper Jon James McMurray died on October 20th in British Columbia, Canada after an airplane stunt went wrong.

McMurray, whose stage name was Jon James, died while shooting a music video and attempting to walk on the wing of a plane while rapping.

Billboard reports, McMurray's management says the rapper was known for as an accomplished stuntman and that he had been training "intensively" on the shoot for months.

"As Jon got further out onto the wing of the plane, it caused the small Cessna to go into a downward spiral that the pilot couldn't correct,"A representative from his team told Billboard. "Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn't have time to pull his chute. He impacted and died instantly."

The plane landed safely in Vernon, British Columbia and no one else was injured in the accident.

McMurray's friend and collaborator Rory Wayne Bushfield posted photos of the rapper to his Instagram account and announced that his friends and family had set up a GoFundMe page "to raise some money so that his music and all his documentation of his fearless life is released in a professional way. The fund will also help with his celebration of life so we can send him off properly."

McMurray's other music videos featured him performing stunts as well.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, coroner's office, and Transportation Safety Board have begun an investigation into McMurray's death.
