Chuck D Likens Bill Cosby's Legacy To Phil Spector's In Heated Twitter Statement

Chuck D is feeling the strong-arm of the internet this Monday morning, as he inexplicably took to the defense of Bill Cosby's legacy via Twitter. And as much as it pains me to utter the man's name week in and week out (especially in the realization that he admitted to drugging woman for sex in a 2005 case) I suppose the Public Enemy frontman is raising the dreaded output vs. personality question. Which is to say, does his comedic legacy outshine the terrors he's committed in his personal life? This writer's of the opinion that no, it does not, but older head's may, and in Uncle Chuck's case, certainly could disagree. Chuck explains his stance in a series of heated tweets, asserting Cosby's work as the type that should withstand allegations, though he positions it as no defense, likening Cosby's case to that of Phil Spector or Marvin Gaye, two massively influential musicians whose legacies have been tarnished by their own misdeeds.

Listen, the thought of a legendary comedian and TV dad-figure like Dr. Huxtable drugging women isn't one that any of us are coming to terms with easily and that makes this particularly painful for those of us that grew up with the family and his blue-tips banter, but in no way does this excuse his behavior or make up for the pain he's caused the dozens of women that have come out against him in the past year. Here's hoping for justice in public and private eyes. Read Chuck D's full set of tweets below.
