Hear A Sly Electro Remix Of Beyonce's "Blow" From Guitarist Dave Harrington
Guitarist, composer and producer Dave Harrington has shared his remix of Beyonce's "Blow," a flip that picks apart some of the original funk-strutter's essential pieces, rearranges them, copies, pastes and ultimately delivers some devilish fun. Harrington, who has made some excellent ethereal dance music alongside Nicolas Jaar in their duo Darkside, lets Beyonce's original groove coast along for a few minutes, only to cut and copy loops in the song's second half. This is one of those detail-oriented "less is more" outings, and we have to give it up for Harrington's ability to not overdo it when it matters most. It's like a trip to a futuristic disco, situated on a space station orbiting a faraway star.
And the Beyonce flip wasn't just a lark for Harrington. The guitarist is in the middle of a "12 Days of Remixes" project, a seasonally-appropriate offering that has already yielded a remix of Michael Jackson's "Human Nature." His style is quite a departure from many of the producers we regularly feature, but with such a sparse and inventive approach to the process, it's all we can do to highlight it here.
