DJ Premier + Jakk Frost Share The Newly Nostalgic One-Off Cut "Dope Boy Talk"

Philly MC Jakk Frost Links With DJ Jazzy Jeff For The Third Session Of The 'Bars In The Booth' Freestyle Series.

"In the middle of winter my guns bring May weather." With one line, Jakk Frost and DJ Premier's latest track reveals all that it's about: sly boasting, cleverness and the slightest of knowing smirks. Over a beat so textbook it has to have come out of Premier's bag of extras from 1994 (we're just speculating here), Frost throws down bar after bar of inventive stunting, claiming to shoot up rivals like swiss cheese, break ankles like Steph Curry and have a formidable beard. (On that last point no one can contradict him).

The fantastic, throwback-tinged track is a free agent of sorts; its description reads "This is not a single, it is just a Jawn (That's Philly Slang For You Dummies)." And if that's the case it's a shame--Frost and Premier sound wonderful together, with the DJ's scratches gliding over some of the roughness of the rhymes. DJ Premier has been hyperactive as of late, having just dropped the ever-so-laid-back R&B cut "Til It's Done" with Anderson Paak and BMB Spacekid. This new jawn, however, is a cut-and-dried hip-hop affair and is encouraging evidence that the Gang Starr general has still got it. Listen to "Dope Boy Talk" below and join us in calling for an extended Jakk Frost x DJ Premier project. We can dream, right?
