Ghostface Killah Shares Yet Another Raekwon Collab, Drops '12 Reasons To Die II'
Today's the day for Ghostface Killah fans the world over. The Wu-Tang Clan alumni is celebrating the release of his new Adrian Younge-produced LP 12 Reasons To Die pt. II, a captivating moodpiece that captures the vintage allure of 70s crime cinema and packs features from some of the most powerful names in hip-hop. Rza, Bilal, Vince Staples and Raekwon all make appearances on the album. That last fellow, specifically, appears on its latest single, the gorgeous "King of New York." Built of jangly guitars, simple keys and a rat-a-tat bass that almost veers out into dub territory (in a very good way), the track is perhaps the lushest, most soothing offering we've heard off the new record. If this is a crime heist in hip-hop form, then "King of New York" is a brief scene of tender calm.
"The 12 Reasons to Die Two saga continues on the streets of NY where Lester Kane played by Raekwon has been deemed the top gangster in NY 1974 and this is the pinnacle of his career," Younge said of the new release. "This is how I envisioned a song would sound if Ennio Morricone and The Rza composed in Hip Hop record in 2015"." You can pick up the new record in a 4 LP vinyl bundle via Linear Labs, or snag a digital copy via iTunes today. Listen to "King of New York" below.
