LargeUp Audio: Hollie Cook Drops Title Song Off Her New LP 'Twice'
Hollie Cook, a LargeUp favorite, is back in action with her lover's rock dub sounds. In preparation for the release of her second LP entitled Twice Cook has released the title track. With a string sample that loops around classic dub rhythms, Cook’s whimsical vocals are greeted by bursts of the psychedelic sounds known to dancehall and dub today. The forthcoming LP continues Cook’s exploration of what she describes as “tropical pop” – a slew of different genres including jazz, ska and pop combined with timeless deep dub grooves. With the help of Prince Fatty, who produced her debut LP, Cook is building on an established sound and taking it in a new direction. The album artwork is a cartoon creation that showcases Cook as a bad-ass green queen decked out in skulls at what looks like a dark rockstar's Tiki Room.
The LP’s single Twice, shows how Cook’s breezy vocals can float effortlessly above serious dubwise rhythms. The album is set to release on May 12th but if you want an early start to your perfect summer playlist you can pre-order Twice on PledgeMusic.com. With track titles like "Tiger Balm"; "Superfast" and "99" you really don't want to miss out on Hollie Cook's innovative style.
