Jay Z Has Donated $1.5 Million To Black Lives Matter & Social Justice Groups
Jay Z appears to be making good on his promise. The Bed Stuy rapper-turned-mogul has reportedly donated $1.5 million to a number of different social justice organizations through his New World Foundation. Perhaps some of you recall his massive TIDAL X: 10/20 at Brooklyn's Barclay's Center months back, where he and a star-studded roster of performers (no joke: Beyonce, Jay, Nicki Minaj, Damian Marley, Lil Wayne, Alessia Cara, Vic Mensa, Usher and a grip of others) raised that precise amount for charities across the globe. Today, we've learned that the transaction has gone through and that a lengthy list of groups and non-profits will be splitting the donation.
A quick glance down the list will reveal local, national and global causes, like Opportunity Agenda, Hands Up United, Sankofa.Org, Community Coalition, Dream Defenders, Black Youth Project, Baltimore Justice Fund, Empowerment Development Corporation, Million Hoodies, NY Justice League and Ohio Students Association/Organizing Collaborative. And while we'd love to hear Jay Z become more vocal on matters pertaining to social justice in the states and abroad -- as opposed to, you know, letting his bankroll do the talking -- his heart certainly seems to be in the right place. And we can't fault him for that.
