Marvel's Moon Girl & Riri Williams To Team Up In New Issue
We've been writing about Lunella Lafayette and Riri Williams for quite some time now (if you're a comic book head like us, chances are you've noticed), both of them redefining the Marvel Universe for being badass black girls. Now, they're going to be teaming up for a special issue to be released next year.
Although it's unknown what exactly happens in the tag team issue, judging by the cover it's going to be great. Released by Amy Reeder (one of the minds behind Moon Girl) on her Twitter, the cover features Lunella alongside Williams, as the Devil Dinosaur charges behind them.
So, just in case you don't know, here's some details about the characters. Lunella has been described as the smartest person in the Marvel Universe, and she's only nine years old. She'll be taking on the role of Moon Girl and venturing through the city streets of New York with Devil Dinosaur, a T. rex that she accidentally transported to the future (for our diehards, this is a reboot of the Devil Dinosaur series of the 1970s).
Riri Williams is the successor to Iron Man, dawning the new superhero alias Ironheart. Williams is a 15 year old science genius attending MIT, who gets the attention of Tony Stark when she builds her own Iron Man suit in her dorm.
The name change was something many fans were curious about, with Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis explaining to Wired how Marvel's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada came up with the moniker.
"Iron Woman seemed old fashioned to some. Iron Maiden looked like a legal nightmare. And Ironheart, coined by Joe Quesada, after I told him my planned story for Riri, speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the Iron Man franchise as a whole."
Issue 15 of Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur, where the team up between Moon Girl and Ironheart will be happening, is dropping in January 2017.
