Model Glue: Talking Style With MeLo-X

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.MeLo-X flanked by his spirit animal and biblical style icon King David

Flatbush's Renaissance man Melo-X rocks the John Desserau designed Legendary Roots Crew tee, with artwork originally designed for the 2011 Roots Picnic tee (that's gonna be some vintage shit someday). This tee is now available in the OKP store, where you can spot Melo-X lookin' Xtra fresh in his OKP gear. Read on for some wisdom on style, childhood, removing women's clothing and more.

OKP: You got style. How would you describe it in 3 words or less? You got a style icon?

MeLo-X: I would describe it as God, worldly, & Schwaza. My style icon is King David of Jerusalem.

OKP: Tell us a story from your childhood. Is there one story that your parents or siblings tell that encapsulates what you were like as a kid?

MeLo-X: My mother always tells people stories of her waking up and seeing me sleep. I would wake up and before doing anything I would be making a beat. I'd ask my mom to make me food. She would make it and then I'd still be making beats. She'd go to work and come home and the food she made for me was still in the same place she left it because I hadn't left my room all day. OKP: What's your favorite item of clothing?

MeLo-X: My headbands/bandanas.

OKP: What's your favorite item of clothing to remove from a female fan?

MeLo-X: I don't usually remove clothing from a female fan. As far as women I deal with, my favorite item of clothing to remove is her pants. She has to have her back turned to me so I can pull them down real slow so the top of her pants or jeans tightly roll down her ass. Schwaza.

OKP: If you had your own cologne - let's just say you bottled your body odor - what would you name it?

MeLo-X: GOD SEX

OKP: Name your spirit animal.

MeLo-X: I actually don't know what it is. I would say Lion but I think that's just because I'm Jamaican.

OKP: What are you working on right now? What's going on with various music projects, etc?

MeLo-X: Right now I'm getting ready to release my joint album called Zulu Guru with Jesse Boykins III on Ninja Tune. After that I will be touring and releasing my first official solo album early next year called...
