Audio Premiere: MoZaic - "Run Back"
Florida funkstress MoZaic drops a proper dose of cosmic soul with her debut single "Run Back" off the forthcoming Unexpected Turns project. Led by a powerful and breathy vocal performance, the track boasts celestial sonic cues; spacey, submerged synthesizers, a tight, punctuating clap-track accompany a groove that was forged in unrequited love. It's the type of jet-set soul we've come to expect from titans of neo-soul, instantly recalling the likes of Jill Scott and Georgia Anne Muldrow and the gamut of left-field pioneers.
Our very first taste of her new batch seems to depart from the acoustic framework fans may know her by (paying her dues by reworking classics like Nina Simone's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood") foreshadowing a long and fruitful career. MoZaic's Unexpected Turns LP is slated for a November 4th drop, so be sure to keep your ear to the ground for when it descends from its deep purple cloud. Listen to her inaugural single "Run Back" below. Sunshine State locals can catch her vibe live and direct Thursday at The Peacock Room in Orlando and then again on Friday at Winter Park's Jandaia's.
