Premiere: The Soul Rebels- "Headlines" (Drake Cover)

NOLA big brass clique The Soul Rebels have graced us with the premiere of their Drake cover "Headlines" off the upcoming mixtape Power=Power. The 8-piece  delivers a playful and thumping rework of Drizzy's 2008 smash, opening up the ditty with none other than Nina Simone, subbing the track's synthesized horns for the real deal and adding the depth and texture of a live kit(s) to the plastic 808 kit of the original track. These rebels are bringing it back to the one and seem intent to sublimate the homogenous tones of the contemporary urban music landscape with the lush instrumentation of our culture's root. Needless to say, these guys gave Drake the proper N'awlins treatment on all accounts.

Power=Power is set to drop December 3rd and its filled to the brim with that NOLA bump, featuring reworks of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and an ill opening medley paying dues to Brooklyn's own Jay-Z, which are available in full below. Brace yourselves folks, these men are quickly solidifying themselves amongst NOLA's proud big brass elite, as their recent CMJ Showcase blow-out (see what I did there?) certainly testified. Catch this exciting 8-piece when they come thumping through your block and be sure to check their cover of "Headlines" below, as well as the aforementioned leaked head-bumpers.
