OKP Premiere: Zara McFarlane - "Angie La La" Live
Just a few months back Zara McFarlane graced us with the jazz chop heavy "Angie La La" off her forthcoming If You Knew Her LP, but now we've got the live heat to follow. With the trumpeting dynamo Leron Thomas by her side and in her ear, Zara scats poetic with some diesel vocal embellishments from her partner in crime, backed by a terribly tight band. With shades of Coltrane and Fitzgerald lining the groove, the dimly lit and wholly intimate performance is an excellent exhibit of polished jazz vocalists and musicians paying homage to all the titans, while injecting their own flares in to the mix in a profound way.
Zara's sophomore record is due out on the early end of 2014 and marks the London based singer's first effort on Gilles Peterson's label Brownswood Recordings and is poised to be big. With one of the most fine-tuned contemporary jazz ensembles this writer's ever heard, If You Knew Her captivates both the jazz-savvy and blues-minded audible marauders. IYKH is out on Brownswood January 20th, so keep it locked to the Okay-realm as we'll have plenty more from this British starlet soon. In the meantime, peep the live rehash of Zara McFarlane's "Angie La La" released with some excellent remixes by the states' own Osunlade. Pre-order If You Knew Her via iTunes today.
