Rat Habitat is the creative collision of one Jordan Peters and vocalist/flutist Melanie Charles, both of which run circles around NYC as some of the most coveted musicians in its ever-broadening landscape of r&b and soul acts (with Peters currently sitting in as Lauryn Hill's guitar man.) Today the Brooklyn duo have unleashed a dreamy new visual for their latest single "Murphy's Word," which bears a distinct sonic kinship to the future-soul of THEESatisfaction or Little Dragon with a bit more of a left-leaning, hip-hop root. Charles (or D Flowers in this manifestation) and Chris Turner lull hypnotically as claps, snaps, and deep synths flood your eardrums with Peters' dirty groove, perfect for your rooftop gatherings or a session on the yoga mat. And it all comes perfectly together in a clip that proves the vibes can be felt in any and all of those arenas. "Murphy's Word" comes to us from the duo's recently released Guns That Shoot Bubbles EP, which features OKP favorites Raydar Ellis and Phase One, available for your listening pleasure via Bandcamp today.
