Soul Of Earth x Omar - "This Is Something Gettin' Heavy"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Soulful house and deep grooves are the move of the day, apparently. Producer pair Soul Of Earth teamed up with the reemerging Omar for the ultra-smooth, jazz-influenced R&B track "This Is Something Gettin' Heavy." When this song comes on, all you can do is sit and let it wash over you. True to its name, it comes off a bit heavy, with robust instrumentation and chunky, distorted bass hits throughout, but veteran crooner Omar vocalizes effortlessly over the horn-laden track to create the perfect song to help you relax after a long day. There's something therapeutic in the well-orchestrated, but thick noise emanating from the music.

"This Is Something Gettin' Heavy" is off Soul Of Earth's EP Electromagnetic from earlier this year that features vocals from equally formidable soul veterans N'Dea Davenport and long-time Omar collaborator Caron Wheeler. Of the three tracks on the project, "Something Gettin' Heavy" certainly boasts the most laid-back feel with more soulful house vibes coming from "Living In Your World" and "I Want U," but the nearly 15-minute project could serve as the soundtrack for a multitude of situations.
