OKP Premiere: Steve Arrington - "Without Your Love" + 'Way Out : 80-84'- A 30 Year Retrospective LP Of Unreleased Material
Ohio funk legend/ambassador Steve Arrington has announced a retrospective album, covering 3o years of unreleased and reworked material with Way Out : 80-84. The release will be a compilation of sorts, blending more obscure cuts from earlier in his career with touched-up wonders that simply never left the cutting room floor. The album may have been twenty-some odd years in the making, but the former Slave and Hall Of Fame frontman actually stepped back on to the scene a few years back with the self-recorded, self-produced Pure Thang, which led to his mighty collaboration with the carrier of the modern funk torch--AKA Dam Funk-- on the astral Higher LP.
Now that Arrington's had some time to sift through the vault, it seems we're being treated to the spoils of his digging. OKP has the true blue honor of premiering "Without Your Love"--the very first offering from his retrospective LP Way Out : 80-84 --and it's as vibe-heavy as we had anticipated. Arrington's composition is soaked in Dayton sun, playful rhodes licks and the pop and warmth of Slave's vintage low-end, taking this one 30 years out of the past with one swinging strut. On top of the ill new sonics, we're happy to announce that you can catch Arrington on a stage near you next month with dates and info available after the jump. Get ready, the seismic swag of the one and only Steve Arrington is here again and it's putting backs out across the dancefloor. Way Out: 80-84 is available for preorder on Bandcamp (in both digital and double LPs) ahead of it September 29th release, just make sure you get your fix and stream the first cut "Without Your Love" below.
