Waking Astronomer certainly seems to be onto something. The ATL-based trio, comprised key player, Alexa Lima, vocalist Afua Richardson (who also has a nice little side-gig as a Marvel/DC illustrator) as well as producer Deku, has been a fixture in the city's primordial music pool for years now. Today, however, they've graced us with the premiere of a brilliant 8-track self-titled EP, flaunting frequencies for future funkateers and progressive-minded r&b enthusiasts alike.

Commencing with the album's head-knocking, lead-off single, "Bottles," Waking Astronomer goes through a series of movements, ranging from minimalistic and electrically-charged r&b joints to more lush, swing-loaded concoctions like "Rubber." There are lucid lullabies like "Sea Of Memories", footwork-friendly heaters in "Pendulum" and dizzying dance cuts a la "Br'er Rabbit," all on one deceptively-deep EP, that should catch the ear of Hiatus Kaiyote, Thundercat and Little Dragon fans looking for some next-level sonic suites. You can stream the self-titled debut from Waking Astronomers down below, but once you've had your fill, be sure to take the project home with you after a quick visit to Bandcamp. Keep your eyes on us for their next transmission.
