Zara McFarlane delivers a debut stream of the forthcoming If You Knew Her LP - her second formal project behind 2011's Until Tomorrow - ahead of the album's scheduled January 20th release date. The premiere follows the fairly recent release of a dope Yoruba Soul remix of McFarlane's "Angie La La" from Osunlade and the ever-popular cover of Junior Murvin and Lee "Scratch" Perry's "Police & Thieves" that helped to catapult her to the world's stage as the newest dynamo to emerge from the hallowed halls of Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings. The album features those singles and 9 more songs for a total of 11 tracks dense with McFarlane's rich vocal tinged with the flavor of dub and a decent dose of bebop. Having conquered the jazz standard, McFarlane has set about the business of changing the industry's standard with a bar-raising aesthetic that places her amongst a small group of budding pioneers who have made it their business to challenge the ear and the idea of genre-specific limitation. Check the tracks below to listen to the full stream of Zara McFarlane's forthcoming If You Knew Her LP. Pre-order If You Knew Her via iTunes. Stay tuned for more from Zara McFarlane and Brownswood Recordings.
