2 Live Crew's Fresh Kid Ice Dead At 53
Christopher "Fresh Kid Ice" Wong Won, a founding member of 2 Live Crew, has passed away at the age of 53.
According to the group's manager, Won died Thursday morning in a Miami hospital because of a medical condition. Prior to creating 2 Live Crew alongside DJ Mr. Mixx (David Hobbs) and Amazing Vee (Yuri Vielot), Won served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
In 1984 the rap group met up with Luther Campbell who would sign them to his label and serve as their lead vocalist. 2 Live Crew's third album, As Nasty As They Wanna Be, would not only become the group's most successful album but their most controversial, with the record being the first to be labeled legally obscene by the government. However, 2 Live Crew were eventually acquitted from the obscenity trial.
