2021 BET Awards: Best Performances Featuring Megan Thee Stallion, H.E.R., DaBaby & More
The 2021 BET Awards hosted by Taraji P. Henson has featured Megan Thee Stallion, H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Ari Lennox and others. City Girls and a few other acts are set to hit the stage later this evening.
The BET Awards are back and they’re quite entertaining this year. We came for the performances from some of the industry’s biggest names in hip-hop and R&B. The fact that it’s live this year is a godsend, especially given the fact that the entire world has been on hold for a year.
Hosted by Taraji P. Henson with the theme “Year of the Black Woman,” the evening has already seen Megan Thee Stallion, H.E.R., Migos and Cardi B hit the stage. Also, Jazmine Sullivan, Ari Lennox, Roddy Ricch and a few others have also shared their newest tracks with the socially distant audience.
Lil Baby and Kirk Franklin opened the show and set the precedence for the evening when they shared a live rendition of "We Win" off of the Space Jam: A New Legacy soundtrack. So far, our favorite performance moment was when H.E.R. broke into a guitar solo as she closed out her track "We Made It" from her new album Back Of My Mind. Her star power was undeniable here.
Before snatching up Album of the Year, Sullivan blessed the audience and sang her latest single "Tragic." Lennox joined her and surprisingly offered up "On It" from Jazmine's well-received album Heaux Tales. Since tonight is all about the ladies, on the other end of the spectrum, Miami's City Girls appeared and "Twerkulator" became the center of attention.
Later in the evening in honor of Queen Latifah receiving the 2021 Lifetime Achievement award, Lil' Kim, Rapsody and UK rapper Monie Love shared a medley of a few of her biggest songs throughout her career. MC Lyte also was a part of the beautifully thought-out tribute. It felt good to watch on as one of the originators of female hip-hop received her flowers.
Below we’re sharing all of the live performances we love. Keep checking throughout the evening for the rest of the sets.
