The Absolute Best, Most Bizarre and Biggest Celebrity 2021 Met Gala Looks
For the first socially distanced Met Gala, things appeared to almost be back to normal, style stars like Erykah Badu and Rihanna shut the red carpet down.
The Met Gala historically is known for bringing the brightest stars of the entertainment industry together, this year it did just that. Hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this year’s celebration centered around the uniqueness of American fashion. With that being the leading light, designers were left to interpret their perspective of America’s contributions to fashion.
While some fashion heads took to their Twitter timelines to bash celebrities for their lack of imagination, we were keeping tabs on the red carpet highlights that stood out. For the first socially distanced Met Gala, things appeared to almost be back to normal. Keke Palmer stunned as one of the hosts of the fundraiser, her sparkly Sergio Hudson number was well fit for her hosting duties. Donna Summer was clearly on the mood board when her stylist and glam team were putting together her entire look.
It was a treat to watch attendees like Lil Nas X, Kid Cudi, Chloe x Halle, Normani, and Zoë Kravitz shake up the red carpet. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky eventually arrived quite late, but it was worth the wait as she appeared in a Balenciaga Couture look that was a showstopper, Rocky showed up in ERL (this duo closed the carpet). Honorable mention to Erykah Badu, our favorite style chameleon who showed up in a head-to-toe Thom Browne look that's going to be hard to erase from our memory.
In tandem with the America: A Lexicon of Fashion exhibition, many of the celebrities who attended lit up the red carpet with their custom looks. In addition to American designers who are household names, the carpet also featured head turning looks and pieces designed by the following Black designers: Sergio Hudson, Fe Noel, Brother Vellies, Khiry, and Theophilio.
