21 Savage, Metro Boomin Re-Create Cash Money Album Covers For 'Savage Mode 2' Artwork
The project is the first 21 Savage release since 2018's I Am > I Was.
Back in 2016, 21 Savage and Metro Boomin released the collaborative project Savage Mode. The album was a major success, peaking at number seven on the United States' Top Rap Albums chart and eventually earning Gold certification in the States from the RIAA. Two singles from the album, "No Heart" and "X," were both certified double-platinum. On Monday night, the duo announced the release date of the project's long-awaited sequel with a trailer narrated by Morgan Freeman.
"Savage is defined as fierce, beastly, and untamed," Freeman says, alongside eerie clips of the two in the studio. "Mode is defined as a way of operating or using a system. So to be in Savage Mode is to go hard, not allowing anything to stop or deter you from your mission. Basically, this means when someone is in Savage Mode, they are not to be fucked with."
This time around, the two and their teams are going all out for the release. The trailer's director Gibson Hazard released a horror film-inspired cover for the project. The official artwork is an homage to the Pen and Pixel-designed albums of No Limit and Cash Money's heyday.
During a concert in Los Angeles back in July, 21 announced that the project was on the way. Out of nowhere on Monday night, the two officially revealed that it would be coming sooner than we expected.
21 Savage and Metro Boomin are dropping Savage Mode 2 on Friday, October 2.
