50th-Anniversary Woodstock Festival Announced for 2019 at Original Site

The golden anniversary will feature performances, TED-style talks, and a commemorative exhibit.

The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is joining forces with Live Nation and INVNT to host a 50th-anniversary Woodstock celebration next year. The sight of the legendary 1969 festival will open its grounds, just 90 minutes north of New York City, to commemorate a watershed moment in countercultural history.

The original three-day festival hosted performances from nearly three dozen groups and musicians, including Sly & The Family Stone, Mountain, Santana, and Jimi Hendrix, who capped the final night of the festival with an iconic two-hours-plus set that introduced his newly-formed Band of Gypsys ensemble (featuring Buddy Miles on drums and Billy Cox on bass.)

Though a line-up has yet to be announced, BWCA has set the 50th-anniversary bash for August 16-18, promising "three days of memorable experiences," featuring, "live performances from prominent and emerging artists spanning multiple genres and decades, and TED-style talks from leading futurists and retro-tech experts."
