All Types Of Blackness: Here's What Went Down At Afropunk 2018

Afropunk 2018

Afropunk 2018 featured performances from Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae, Pusha T, and others. As always, the annual two-day music festival in Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park featured black people in their best fashion, with the fans being the stars of the event.

With headliners ranging from Afropunk crowd favorite, Badu to The Internet, Daniel Caesar, sister duo Ibeyi and beyond, coupled with dozens of black-vendors selling goods on site, Afropunk is a crowd pleaser has become known for drawing some of the most fashionable black people in Brooklyn out to showcase their style.

Although there were some criticisms of the festival on social media (a woman by the name of Ericka Hart, her partner Ebony Donnley, and their friend Lorelei, were allegedly removed from Afropunk's VIP section because Donnley was wearing a shirt that read "Afropunk sold out for white consumption") the event was well-received and featured appearances from Ava DuVernay, Issa Rae, and others.

Photographer Vickey Ford was on site at AfroPunk 2018, camera in hand, to document the people and performers of Afropunk.

Check out the visual recap of Afropunk as told through the lens of Ford below.
