After Three Years Away, Season 3 of 'Atlanta' Will Premiere in March 2022
Returning to FX on March 24th with a two-episode premiere, a new teaser for the third season of Atlanta will arrive Christmas Day.
Season three of the Donald Glover-helmed FX series Atlantafinally has a release date. FX Networks put speculation to rest, announcing that season three will launch March 24th, premiering two episodes.
In an exclusive statement, FX Entertainment President Eric Schrierspoke with Deadline about relaunching Atlanta:
"We are thrilled to have Atlanta back with a new season on March 24th... Once again, Donald Glover, the producers and stellar cast have delivered another signature season synonymous with the excellence that makes Atlanta so great.”
Originally set to air in January 2021, the cast and crew of Atlanta delayed production of season three amid the pandemic. In an interview with TV Line last year, FX Networks chairman John Landgraf confirmed that screenwriters for Atlanta had concluded scripts for seasons three and four, with season four reportedly having eight episodes.
The new seasonwill pick up where season two ended, with Alfred ('Paper Boi'), Earn and Darius leaving for Europe to tour with Clark County, where Paper Boi will be an opening act. The tour comes after Earn and Alfred meet a crossroads in their business partnership, but decide to extend their commitment after Earn ruthlessly sabotages Clark County by tossing a gold-plated gun (courtesy of Uncle Willie earlier in the season) in his bag while going through TSA security. County's manager takes the fall for the gun, staying behind while Paper Boi, Earn and Darius embark on their first major tour.
But this time around, Glover wants respect to be put on Atlanta's name. In a series of now-deleted tweets from late-October, Glover disregarded comparisons to fellow TX series Dave, asserting that Atlanta is the better show.
Asfans await the third season, a new teaser for the show is set to land Christmas Day during NBA games on ESPN and ABC.
