Anderson .Paak Earns First Billboard No. 1 For Silk Sonic's "Leave the Door Open"
After a few weeks behind Drake, Lil Nas X, and Cardi B, Anderson .Paak has scored his first Billboard top spot.
Back in March, Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars released "Leave the Door Open," their first collaboration as the group Silk Sonic. The track was an instant hit on social media, but in its first weeks out, the song was blocked from the top Billboard spot by Drake's surprise Scary Hours 2, Cardi B's "Up," and more recently, Lil Nas X's "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)." With the achievement, Paak has now earned his first Billboard number-one record.
"It is now safe to wear your bell bottoms all week," Paak wrote on Instagram. "Leave The Door Open is the number 1 song in the country and I can't thank y'all enough! @brunomars we poppin bottles in the Stu today I'm otw champ!"
In recent weeks, Paak has campaigned on social media, calling on fans to stream the track to rally for the top spot. "If you could find it in your heart to stream our single a bit more that would be sick," he wrote on Instagram last weekend. "@BrunoMars is having a hard time coping with 3rd place. He said he's not used to that s--t. So let's rally for number 1 y'all!"
"Leave the Door Open" is Bruno Mars' eighth number-one record on the Billboard Hot 100. It took five weeks to get there, the quickest amount of time one of his records charted before hitting number-one. Before that, "Uptown Funk!" reached number-one in an eight-week span in 2015.
The song is just Paak's second appearance on the Billboard Hot 100. His appearance on Eminem's "Lock it Up" in February peaked at number 89. The honor comes just weeks after Paak won his fourth Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance for "Lockdown."
Stream "Leave the Door Open" now on all major digital streaming platforms.
