Anderson Paak Gets Gooey On "The Season / Carry Me" (prod. 9th Wonder & Callum Connar)
One of the most satisfying and fruitful new partnerships in music has been the working relationship of Anderson Paak and Dr. Dre--two West Coast geniuses who will apparently stop at nothing to bring the lineage of funk past the present and into the future. Paak, of course, guested on numerous tracks on Dre's Compton LP, and has a voice that fits just as well over booming hip-hop hooks as it does slow serpentine R&B.
Saturday night, during his Beats 1 Radio show The Pharmacy, Dre shared numerous new songs (including one of his own), but it was a new Anderson Paak cut that deserves immediate attention. "The Season/Carry Me" lurches over worn-out organs and lazy synth bass, Paak rhyming in his signature rasp even as he takes plenty of breaks to launch into beautifully-sung interludes.
Then, at the two minute mark...damn. It's just too much. It cannot be described. It can only be experienced. Production credits go to 9th Wonder and Callum Connar, who help make "The Season/Carry Me" one of the most enjoyable singles of the year. Drop what you're doing and get on this one.
