Ari Lennox Arrested at Amsterdam Airport, Claims She was Racially Profiled by Airline
Dutch military police arrested Ari Lennox at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Monday morning.
Ari Lennox is being detained in Amsterdam following an altercation with an airline attendant at the city's airport.
According to a report from Reuters, the 30-year-old singer was arrested Monday morning at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport when military police responded to an altercation between Lennox and an airline official. Lennox herself first reported she was being arrested on Twitter (see below,) where she claimed was being detained for "reacting to a woman racially profiling me." In another since-deleted tweet, Lennox added, "Wow Amsterdam I’m horrified. I was so happy to travel and this evil woman… I’ve never experienced racism so blatant."
The Dutch military police, who are reportedly in charge security for the airport, and the airline have a different take on the incident. "There was an altercation," said a spokesperson for Dutch airline KLM, who investigated the matter. "It was about seeing her identification. The lady did not show the correct document," they added, noting her management has since apologized on Lennox's behalf. The singer, who was arrested for public intoxication and "behaving aggressively towards an airline official," remains in lock-up at the time of publishing.
Lennox was headed to Amsterdam following an appearance at the 2021 Soul Train Awards on Sunday night, where she performed her new single "Pressure" and joined Summer Walker for a live take on their collaborative song, "Unloyal."
