'Atlanta' To Return In 2018; Donald Glover Sets Overall Deal At FX
Having taken 2016 by storm Donald Glover's critically acclaimed Atlantawill be taking a break in 2017, only to return in 2018.
In a statement from FX the network announced that the television series would be returning some time in 2018. However, there is some good news that came along in the statement too: Glover has made an exclusive overall production deal with FX Productions, which means we will be getting even more shows from him that will be on FX and other places.
"Donald is a remarkable artist, effortlessly shifting from actor to writer, producer, director and musician to create one amazing project after another," Nick Grad, FX President of Original Programming said in the statement. "Atlanta was just the beginning, the breakout comedy of the year and a series revered as much for its originality as its honest look at the experience of being aspiring, young and black in that legendary city. We're proud to partner with Donald in an overall deal that will allow him to continue turning his creative vision into incredible television."
At this past weekend's Golden Globe Awards Atlanta received the award for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy, while Glover took home a Best Actor prize. However, while receiving the former award the multi-talented Glover used a part of his speech to thank the one and only Atlanta rap trio Migos.
"I really want to thank Atlanta, and all the black folks in Atlanta, for real. Just for being alive, and being amazing people. I couldn't be here without Atlanta," he said. "I really want to thank the Migos. Not for being on the show, but for making 'Bad and Boujee.' That's the best song ever."
2017 is already looking to be a promising year for Glover. Aside from filming for his portrayal of a young Lando Calrissian in the forthcoming Han Solo Star Wars film, he will also be performing as Childish Gambino, making a stop at this year's Governors Ball in New York.
