Audio: Raphael Saadiq x Common x Ledisi "They Don't Know You" [Unreleased 2004 Track]
Aha! On Thursday Raphael Saadiq and Ledisi are conspicuously featured on the Spotify playlist of POTUS Barack Obama. Scant hours later a duet between the two singers featuring raps from controversial White House guest Common suddenly leaks to the internets after remaining unheard since it was recorded in 2004. I smell a c-o-n-spiracy. This is collusion. This is nepotism. There is clearly rampant insider soul-trading going on in the corridors of power. I love it. Most damning of all, this song (produced by the brilliant Steve Spacek) is good, too. Actually turns out it was posted by one Mathieu Schreyer, who said this about it:
Back in 2004 Raphael Saadiq opened his studio doors to Spacek to produce an album for one of his sub-labels. The album was suppose to be called Pookie Blue Room and features 10 songs produced by both Steve and Morgan with Raphael singing on all of them and featuring guest appearances by Common , Q-Tip , Ledisi, Steve Spacek and Sir Bentley (you know it was 2004 when you see Sir Bentley's name, ahaha)…anyhow the album was never completed and therefor never released…
Nuff said. Listen below and start adding the hashtag #pookieblueroom to every single thing you say online.
