Juvenile's "Back That Thang Up" Is Now A Pro-Vaccine Anthem — "Vax That Thang Up"
Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, and Mia X have come together to transform one of the greatest twerking anthems of all time into a pro-vaccine PSA.
Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, and Mia X want you to get your covid-19 vaccine. The three have come together with BLK, the largest dating app for Black singles, to rework Juvenile's classic twerk anthem "Back That Thang Up" as a pro-vaccine anthem — "Vax That Thang Up."
It's a comedic reinterpretation of the classic rap staple, with the chorus now being: "Girl you look good won't you vax that thang up / you a handsome young brotha won't you fax that thang up," and including the following great line from Mannie: "I know you can't stand it, no holdin' hands chick / But when we get the shot we got' be romancin'."
"I just wanted to do something positive for my people and to stand in the front to show that I’m willing to sacrifice my life not just for me but also for my family," Juvenile said about the track in a press release. "We don’t know what we’re facing right now but we really do all need to be vaccinated so we can continue to do our thing and survive."
On their website for the campaign, BLK stressed the importance of Black people getting the vaccine, writing: "Black adults under age 40 are the most likely group to avoid the Covid-19 vaccination, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Distrust of doctors and government, less access to vaccination centers, and online misinformation each play a role. We hope this video is both entertaining and actionable."
The website also notes that "Vax That Thang Up" "marks the first time in music history that artists from Cash Money Records and No Limit Records have collaborated in any official capacity," with Juvenile and Mannie Fresh being from Cash Money, and Mia X being from No Limit.
