During CinemaCon on Monday, Bad Bunny was revealed as new Marvel hero 'El Muerto,' portraying the Latino character for Sony Pictures in 2024.
Bad Bunny is taking his charisma from the stage to the big screen. On Monday, the Puerto Rican superstar was announced to portray newest Marvel hero 'El Muerto' in an upcoming film for Sony Pictures. Per Variety, Bad Bunny – born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio – will be the first Latino actor as the protagonist for a Marvel film.
As the rapper was introduced to the CinemaCon stage by Sony Motion Pictures Group president Sanford Panitch, it was also announced that the yet-untitled film will release on January 12, 2024.
“To bring El Muerto to life is just incredible .. so exciting,” said Ocasio, also mentioning that he grew up a fan of wrestling.
Explained on the official Marvel website, El Muerto – born Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez – is a wrestler with superhuman abilities, coming into power after facing off with Spider-Man in the ring. During a charity wrestling match, El Muerto is nearly stung by Spider-Man with poison, but as the wrestling star's rival El Dorado attempts to claim his life, Spider-Man rescues El Muerto, the two teaming up to defeat El Dorado.
During CinemaCon, Sony Pictures alluded to the upcoming film following El Muerto as he inherits the powers of his father, Marcus Estrada.
Earlier this month, Ocasio wrapped his El Último Tour Del Mundo 2022, but in August, the rapper will embark on his next stadium tour World's Hottest Tour, across the United States and Latin America. Tickets for the tour are available now.
