Beastie Boys MCA To Receive Tribute At Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival 2013
May 17, 2013
The Beastie Boys'MCA--born Adam Yauch--will receive another tribute at the 2013 Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival. BHF has announced that in addition to previously confirmed performers Pusha T, Redman and EPMD there will be a Yauch tribute on the final day of the festival, which will include a moment of silence in his honor followed by a "Beastie tribute" curated the executive director of the festival, Wes Jackson, with DJ RawBeatz. In an official press statement, Jackson elaborates:
“We reached out to [King] Ad Rock [Adam Horovitz] right after MCA passed last year and asked if there was anything we could do to help celebrate the life of his brother. It was so soon that we were hesitant to even reach out. We wanted to give them space and time. We did speak to Cey Adams [longtime Beasties collaborator and friend] and tried to put something together but the timing wasn’t right. We couldn’t go another year without taking time out to honor what MCA did for our culture and our music.”
BHF organizers Brooklyn Bodega will also release an exclusive mix of Beastie songs of remixes from the “Cookie Puss” days all the way to “Hot Sauce Committee.” Tickets are available now and you can expect more acts on the bill to be announce in the coming weeks.
