Watch Beyoncé's Celebratory "Brown Skin Girl" Video
"Brown Skin Girl" is the centerpiece of Beyoncé's Black is King movie.
A couple of weeks after premiering her Black is Kingmovie on Disney+, Beyoncé has released a new video. The video is for the single "Brown Skin Girl," which features SAINt JHN, WizKid, and Bey's daughter Blue Ivy.
The video, which is taken from the movie, features appearances from Kelly Rowland, Lupita Nyong'o, Naomi Campbell, and more. (The real star is Blue Ivy, who gets her solo moment to close out the video.) The video was premiered on Good Morning America on Monday (August 24th). Beyoncé shared an exclusive message for the show.
In it, she said:
"It was so important to me in 'Brown Skin Girl' that we represented all different shades of brown...We wanted every character to be shot in a regal light…It was important that we are all in this together and we're all celebrating each other."
"Brown Skin Girl" was one of the highlights of The Lion King: The Gift album, which was released last year. The song and the video is the centerpiece of Black is King, which Beyoncé herself directed and executive produced. The movie was shot all over the world — from New York and Los Angeles to South Africa and West Africa — and features appearances from JAY-Z, Pharrell Williams, Tierra Whack, Mr. Eazi, and more. Beyoncé also worked with numerous artists and creatives from the diaspora. The list of directors, alone, who contributed are staggering, from Emmanuel Adjei to Blitz Bazawule to Jenn Nkiru.
