OKP Premiere: Big Cats & Homeless Play w/ Space And Time In Their New Video For "Well Wishes" ft. Lydia Liza
Just about everything is in flux in Big Cats and Homeless's new video for "Well Wishes." Filmed at "an undisclosed location" in the duo's frigid Minneapolis home base, the clip showcases the producer and MC kicking back while just about everything else shifts and grows. Chalkboard murals, lighting theatrics, skateboard follies and some very, very tall ceilings are on deck in the clip, which has us wondering--does everyone in the Midwest have this much extra space, just for kicking it? Winter be damned, we're about to pack our bags and move out to the North Star State.
Despite its sparse, brooding beat and lyrical candor (Homeless is certainly feeling sketchy about the future, here), "Well Wishes" ultimately comes across as a deeply comforting song. With gorgeous backing vocals provided by frequent Big Cats collaborator Lydia Liza and now a brilliant and warm-hearted video from Impulse Creative, what we've been given is a sign of recognition--sure it's not easy out there, but no one's really on their own. Homeless and Cats know the score.
By now, Okayplayers should be at least somewhat versed in the productions of Big Cats; the Minnesotan composer, multi-instrumentalist and beat jockey has had a banner year(ish) with Pangea, Eric Mayson collabs and multiplemixtapes. Homeless (aka Ryan Kopperud) is an MC/poet/writer born and raised in Minneapolis, who has clearly made the transition from slam poetry to rap rhyme construction without poise and aplomb. "Well Wishes" comes from Homeless and Big Cats recent LP The Polar Bear Rug, an entirely free 11 track offering that was released in July. Watch the world premiere of the duo's new video below.
