Big Sean Opens Up About Dealing With Depression and Anxiety
"I just felt lost and I didn't know how I got there."
Big Sean has opened up about mental health and therapy.
In a series of videos posted to his Instagram account over the weekend, the Detroit rapper spoke directly to fans, sharing his experiences reckoning with his mental health.
"As I'm going into another year of life, wiser, I'm definitely seeing things different than how I used to see 'em," he said, adding, "I just wanted to speak on it and share, you know, because a lot of y'all need insight just like I do and probably felt similar too."

The revelations come a year after Sean canceled his Unfriendly Reminder tour with Playboi Carti. In an interview with Billboard, he specified that depression and anxiety had contributed to his decision to sit show dates out, saying, "had some things to work out in my head...I never really took the time out to nurture myself, to take care of myself. It took me a lot of depression having a lot of anxiety to realize something was off. I've been getting myself together, getting my mind right. So I have been taking better care of myself."
In his recent Instagram vides, Sean discusses that period and talked about meditating and seeing a therapist.
"I stepped back from everything I was doing, everything I had going on, because somewhere in the middle of it, dawg, I just felt lost and I didn't know how I got there," he says. "I got a good therapist, I was blessed enough to talk to some super spiritual people, and they made me realize what I was missing in my life and one thing I was missing was clarity."

"I realized that it all started with me and I had to analyze myself," Sean says in one of the videos. "I couldn't point the finger at anybody else. I had to point it at myself and nurture those relationships that were important to me, but most importantly nurture the relationship with myself."
The rapper also updated fans on his art and the silver lining of reassessing his path, saying, "I'm making the best music of my life."
