The Black Keys Debut "Bullet In The Brain" & Prank Call Their Own Label

A fragile falsetto suggests it, but a wailing synthesizer confirms it: The Black Keys-- everyone's favorite garage-blues outfit-- are back and this time with psychedelia on their new song, "Bullet In The Brain"! We've known the Keys were working on TurningBlue, the follow up to their massively successful El Camino, but we didn't know it'd sound this good. We've heard them use synthesizers off their new, previously released singles like "Fever" but never like this. Here, Dan Auerbach's synths create a lush, psychedelic texture for Patrick Carney to beat over. And while this might be the last Black Keys leak until their May 13th album release, they are kind enough to ensure we'll stay entertained in the meantime.

It was a Thursday morning like any other when Atlantic Records picked up a prank call from Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney--or as they prefer to be called, Quartzazium. Quartzazium--the fictional "new-age" band-- begs the Atlantic rep to hear their material--albeit as they hold back laughter. They beg them to come see their live performance because "It'll be our last performance until the spring solstice" And while I eagerly anticipate Quartzazium's debut release, something tells me that if we're waiting for the "spring solstice," we'll be waiting for a long time (there is no spring solstice.)
