Pass The Popcorn: Watch PBS' Brilliant Black Panthers Doc 'Vanguard Of The Revolution' For Free
It shouldn't take Beyonce's halftime performance to realize that even to this day, The Black Panthers and the movement they inspired, remain terribly misunderstood. Their community-focused programs help feed and educate children failed by the institutions of their time and laid the foundational sentiments for protest anthems that continue to maintain their sharpness and relevance half-a-century down the line.
It was with these notions in mind that director Stanley Nelson Jr.(whose filmography contains renowned titles like Freedom Summer, We Shall Remain and The Murder Emmett Till amongst others) created PBS' highly-anticipated Black Panthers documentary, Vanguard Of The Revolution. Here Nelson Jr. explores the very roots of the Black Panthers and how they sent tremors up and down the spines of the systems that methodically disparaged and degraded black lives during what should have been the nation's turning point following the signings of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Right Act of 1965. The film is available for your to stream in its entirety via the link below. Tune-in, wise-up and stay woke.
