Watch Black Thought Perform a Two-Track Medley on the Tonight Show
Black Thought stepped to the Tonight Show forefront on Wednesday night.
On Wednesday night, Black Thought was musical guest for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The leader of the show's in-house band performed "Quiet Trip" and "Nature of the Beast," the latter of which features Portugal. The Man and The Last Artful, Dodgr, who joined the show via video call. Stream the full performance below.
The performance comes days after the release of his new album, Streams of Thought, Vol. 3, and the announcement of an upcoming joint project with Danger Mouse titled Dangerous Thoughts. He also gave an update on The Roots' next album, though he didn't offer an ETA on when we could expect its release, due to the group's already-busy schedule and deliberate creative process.
"It's a feel good record," he recently told Ebro Darden. "It's a record for people who got into hip-hop and who evolved at the same period of time that we did."
Thought also recently spoke with Stereogum on the making of Vol. 3, including the standout "Good Morning," with Pusha T, Killer Mike, and Swizz Beatz. As it turns out, Sean C originally tried to skip the instrumental.
"He tried to skip by it," he said, "because it already had ad-libs from Swizz Beatz on it and Sean thought "ah, maybe I'll do something with this one day but I don't think this is what we need for our project...but it caught my eye, so to speak. I said, "Go back to that one you skipped over." That was the one that began to write itself."
