Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes Covers Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher"

On Monday, Brittany Howard released a new cover of Jackie Wilson's 1967 single "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher." The new cover was recorded exclusively for Amazon Music. Stream the track on Amazon Music below.
Originally written by Gary Jackson, Raynard Miner and Carl Smith, Wilson's track peaked at number six on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topped the US Billboard R&B charts. The song wasranked at number 246 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and was inducted in to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
Howard has covered the song before. The track is a mainstay during during her live concerts, and she even performed the track for British pianist Jools Holland's 2020 New Year celebration show for BBC Music. This new performance surfaces just under a week before Howard is up for five Grammy awards, for her 2019 album Jaime: Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for "Stay High," Best R&B Performance for "Goat Head," and Best American Roots Performance for "Short and Sweet."
The original "Higher and Higher" track was recorded at Columbia's studios in Chicago by Wilson and Motown Records' house band the Funk Brothers: bassist James Jamerson, drummer Richard "Pistol" Allen, guitarist Robert White and keyboardist Johnny Griffith. The track has been covered by singers like Dolly Parton, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Morrello, and Billy Joel.
