Capital STEEZ's Last Bars On SMTH's "Last Straw" (prod. DJ Spinna)
"Last Straw" by on-the-comeup Brooklyn rapper SMTHfeatures Capital STEEZ's final recorded verse and with a hyper-recent Pro Era release circulating the internet, Steeloand his tragic death have been on my mind a lot in the past few days. The track just premiered on Billboard and was produced by OKP favorite DJ Spinna (who was just named on our roundup of the best Michael Jackson remixes). With a smooth, laid-back track driven by a simple bass line, both New York natives settle into the music and vent their frustrations for a cathartic three minutes and 20 seconds.
With "Last Straw" recorded only five days prior to the young rapper's death, there's something eerie about listening to the song, especially with its general feeling of fed-uppedness. Further, it's certainly sad to know this might be the last we hear from one of Brooklyn's most recent and most promising talents, but at least we got just one more verse (and a damn good one at that) to remember him by. His rhymes were complemented perfectly by the work of SMTH and DJ Spinna—it all came together as it should have for this track.
