Cardi B Donates $100K To Her Former Bronx Middle School

On Tuesday, Cardi B made a $100,000 donation to the arts at her former middle school Alexander Macomb School in the Bronx.

Cardi B is giving back to the Bronx. On Tuesday (September 14), the "Hot S***" rapper paid a visit to her former middle school I.S. 232 The Alexander Macomb School, giving a $100,000 donation to arts programming. Surprising a full auditorium of students in Bronx's Morris Heights neighborhood, Cardi shared memories of attending her middle school alma mater.

“A lot of the teachers were really tough on me because they saw something in me,” she said. “I was like a bad kid, but I was very special to a lot of these teachers and I still got them in my heart.”

Per the New York City Department of Education, the Grammy-winning rapper's donation was accepted by Principal Desiree Resto.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cardi B back home to IS 232 in the Bronx, and we are so grateful for her generous contribution to her alma mater,” schools Chancellor David Banks said in a statement. “Cardi B’s commitment of $100K for the arts will help the school’s kids soar to their highest heights.”

After making the surprise donation, Cardi answered questions from students and took a group photo with students and faculty. Cardi's visit to I.S. 232 was part of a week-long tour organized by New York's Community Capacity Development, where the artist also visited locations in Brooklyn and Queens.

In 2019, Cardi posted an Instagram clip of her 2006 middle school yearbook, sharing a look at her pre-fame origins.

“In the beginning, I used to call myself Bacardi, that’s where I got Cardi B from,” Cardi shared while reading some of the comments written in her yearbook. “To Belcalis, you’re such a crazy and funny n****. Good luck, you’re gonna be something big in the future,” read one. Cardi responded, “B**** wasn’t lying.”
