Cardi B Performs Her Final Show, Nipsey Hussle Blasts Trump, & Sasha Obama Chills Backstage at Broccoli City Festival
Here's what went down at this year's Broccoli City Festival.
More than 30,000 people gathered at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington D.C. on Saturday to watch Cardi B, Migos, Miguel, H.E.R, Nipsey Hussle, and more hit the stage at the 2018 Broccoli City Festival.
Daniel Caesar and H.E.R. warmed up the crowd with their sunny, smooth R&B/neo-soul sounds for the daytime portion of the show. In the evening, headliners Miguel brought rock star heat to his cool R&B set, while the mighty Migos sidestepped a technical glitch. Though their sound cut off for a few minutes, the Atlanta trio maneuvered through their signature trap melodies with ease.
Cardi B was the star of the night. The Bronx MC performed her final show of the year before maternity leave, and took the time to shout out her "day-one fans." She plowed through hits from her Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1 mixtape days to her current No. 1 album, Invasion of Privacy. After Cardi's performance, the festival host took the stage and proclaimed, “There’s nothing like seeing real, organic people getting their just due.”
The Broccoli City brand, of course, is "organic." Launching in 2013 to draw attention to Earth Day, the enterprise's mission has been to re-build urban communities through self-sustainability, healthy food, and clean living, with a focus on "people, planet, and profit."
Add another "P" for political, as this year's festival fostered a moment for the history books when Nipsey Hussle took a stand against Donald Trump. The California rapper performed his 2016 track, "FDT" ("Fuck Donald Trump") featuring YG, while a mega-screen displayed a photo of Trump supporter Kanye West wearing a "Make America Great Again" cap. Middle fingers grazed the sky across the stadium.

Also, President Obama's youngest daughter, Sasha Obama making a rare appearance while chilling back stage with Cardi B and Offset may have just spawned the photo of the year.
