Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter & Marcus Miller Form Mega Nova Supergroup
ATTN: music nerds far and wide. Carlos Santana's got some big plans for the next act in his legendary career. Namely, the alignment of virtually every superstar luminary in jazz under one groove, forming the supergroup, Mega Nova. The group wrangles the likes of Wayne Shorter, Marcus Miller, Cindy Blackman Santana (Carlos' wife,) and Mr. Hands himself, Herbie Hancock, who's currently recording his own new chapter with Terrace Martin and Robert Glasper.
Mega Nova's mission: to be ambassadors of peace and light with music as the vessel, focusing on live improvisation. Whether a full studio project is to be expected has yet to be determined, but they'll make their onstage debut tonight, August 24th, at The Hollywood Bowl, hoping to extend the musical merriments to the world over in the months ahead. In April Santana reunited with the original players from his classic namesake band to release Santana IV, featuring a lone guest spot from Ronald Isley. If you've yet to hear it, grab your copy on iTunes today and if you're looking to catch Mega Nova in-the-flesh tonight, there's still a little time left to grab your ticket on Ticketmaster.
