Childish Gambino shows off his falsetto covering Brittany Howard's "Stay High"
On Friday, Brittany Howard will release Jaime Reimagined, an album featuring new renditions of songs from her 2019 debut albumJaime.
Jaime Reimagined will feature contributions from Syd, Bon Iver, EarthGang, BadBadNotGood, Common, and more. One of the more anticipated songs on the album is Childish Gambino's cover of "Stay High," one of the most successful singles from the original album. This new version of "Stay High" features production from jazz pianist James Francies and Gambino bringing back his falsetto from his 2016 "Awaken, My Love!" album.
Jamie was the first album Howard released after leaving Alabama Shakes. The album was a dedication to her sister Jamie who died of retinoblastoma as a teen. After the album was released, Howard wrote a statement about her sister:
"She was a musician too. I did this so her name would no longer bring me memories of sadness and as a way to thank her for passing on to me everything she loved: music, art, creativity."
About the making of Jaime Reimagined, she said:
"Making Jaime was so much fun for me because I was able to explore so many different genres of music. There were no rules. This reimagination project has been no different. I have been honored to have so many incredible artists from all musical worlds interpret my songs in such interesting and different ways."
Jaime Reimagined will be out on Friday. A vinyl edition of the album is coming out on September 24th. Check out Childish Gambino singing "Stay High" below.
