Chris Rock Explains Why Arresting Donald Trump Would Be Like "Arresting Tupac"
During Adam Sandler's acceptance of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Chris Rock rifted on the potential arrest of Donald Trump.
Chris Rock has some Selective Outrage for twice-impeached former President Donald Trump. As actor and comedian Adam Sandler accepted the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor ceremony at the Kennedy Center on Sunday (March 19), Rock joked about Trump's potential arrest. The 4th United States President is alleged to have offered adult film actress Stormy Daniels $130,000 in hush money in 2016 as means of preventing her from revealing their 2006 adulterous affair to media outlets.
While the act is not illegal, Trump reimbursed his lawyer, Michael Cohen, and recorded that the payment was for "legal fees," per NBC News. Prosectors say that Trump falsified business records, which is a misdemeanor in New York. The news also comes as Trump has started his 2024 presidential campaign. Trump has denied the allegations about him and Daniels, saying that he has "never had an affair" with the 44-year-old Louisiana native.
“Are you guys really going to arrest Trump? Do you know that this is only going to make him more popular?" Rock asked during the Mark Twain ceremony on Sunday. "It is like arresting Tupac. He’s just going to sell more records. Are you stupid? He slept with a porn star and paid off someone so his wife wouldn’t find out. That’s romantic.”
The joked likely references late rapper Tupac Shakur releasing 1995 album Me Against the World while serving an eight month prison sentence on sexual assault, which was later appealed.
Elsewhere in his speech, the 58-year-old comedian reportedly shared another Will Smith-pointed joke that didn't make his recent Netflix special. The full ceremony will air Sunday, March 26 on CNN.
