Chronixx and Sampa the Great Connect for the "Black is Beautiful" Remix [Premiere]
The original song appeared on Chronixx's Grammy-nominated album Chronology.
Chronixx has linked up with Zambian-Australian rapper Sampa the Great for the "Black is Beautiful" remix, released by Sydney-based label Low Key Source. The original, released in summer 2017, earned a nomination for Best Reggae Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
Both artists are known for their empowering lyrics. The two artists' stars have grown rapidly over the course of the decade. After collaborating with Major Lazer in 2012, Chronixx began performing in the United States at Central Park's Summer Stage 2014. He went on to appear on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in the same year. On the heels of this success, he released his debut album Chronology. In 2015, he appeared on Joey Bada$$' "Belly of the Beast." Earlier this year, Chronixx teamed up with Anderson .Paak's band the Free Nationals' for "Eternal Light." The song appeared on the band's self-titled debut album.
Sampa the Great's rise began towards the latter half of the decade. After releasing two mixtapes and an EP between 2015 and 2017, she dropped her debut albumThe Return this past September. Within those two years, she worked with names like Estelle, Remi, and Earlier this year, she won the ARIA Award for Best Hip-Hop Release for "Final Form."
According to their label, 2020 looks to be a big year for both parties.
