Chuck D Talks Prophets Of Rage Supergroup, Calls Donald Trump "Mein Trump" In New Interview

Chuck D Talks Prophets Of Rage Supergroup, Calls Donald Trump \

Supergroup Prophets Of Rage have become one of this year's most anticipated bands and for good reason. Comprised of Public Enemy's Chuck D, Cypress Hill's B-Real and Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, the group has already played a few shows (we were lucky enough to catch their impromptu performance at Brooklyn's Warsaw earlier this month) as they prepare for an August tour that'll take them across the country.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone Chuck D details how the group's set list was formed (including his favorite Rage songs to perform); speaking with former Rage frontman Zack De La Rocha about the group; and much more.

"I think there's a pressure automatically that makes our rehearsals mandatory on a higher level," Chuck said. "It's because a large part of the lyrics are by Zack De La Rocha and we sit back and say, 'Hey, look, this is not Rage Against the Machine. This is Prophets of Rage. This is three solid situations coming together.'"

And as for getting Zack's blessing:

"I call Zack and he says, 'Dude, this is the utmost honor' and I'm tickled brown by that. And if Zack wants to come in, they got Rage Against the Machine; if he doesn't want to do the songs, it's Prophets of Rage. The songs are greater than any of us as individuals. The thing with getting the approval from Zack was like, 'Yeah, man, this is what it is. This is not Rage, but we're keeping your seat warm' and he was like, 'I'll consider that.'"

Inevitably, the conversation also turns to this year's presidential election, which will likely be between presumptive Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton and presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump. The "Fight The Power" MC goes on to call the election "the machine," and puts into perspective just how much political change he's seen throughout his life.

"...I go back far enough to have people shaking their heads and asking questions about [Ronald] Reagan," Chuck said. "When I first started touring and performing, Thatcher was running the U.K., Nelson Mandela was in prison and Reagan and [George H.W.] Bush were in the United States and people were like, 'What the fuck, dude? He's a cowboy, man.'"

He also essentially compares Trump to Adolf Hitler, just in case you didn't already have an idea of what the iconic rapper thinks of the former Apprentice host.
