City Of New York Approves $4 Million Payment To Eric Garner's Family
Eric Garner's family will be receiving $4 million from a $5.9 million wrongful death settlement with the city of Staten Island.
In a report from the Staten Island Real-Time News, a Staten Island judge has approved settlement amounts to Garner's family. Garner's youngest child, three-year-old Legacy Jayleen Garner-Miller, will receive $1.3 million; his widow, Esaw Snipes, will receive $1.4 million; his other daughters – Erica and Emerald Snipes – will each be paid $163,600; their older brother Eric will get $204,000 and their younger brother Emery will receive $482,000; and Garner's mom, Gwen Carr, will receive $82,000.

"I'm very happy that Legacy is going to be getting an increase in funds from what was originally proposed," Lorraine Coyle, the attorney who represents Garner-Miller, said. The original amount for Garner's youngest child was under $1 million.
The money will be paid out over the next 90 days in the form of annuities or annual installments. However, it is unknown how much the attorney fees will be. Lawyers Jonathan Moore and the firm of Rubenstein and Rynecki, who represented the family at various times since the July 2014 incident, are asking for almost $2.5 million in legal fees.
The payout Garner's family will be receiving comes from New York City agreeing to pay $5.9 million to resolve a wrongful-death claim over Eric's killing by NYPD.
